After seeing so many unhappy dogs in pounds and wanting to take them all home, and then hurricane Katrina hitting and seeing the devastation of what that brought to the dog world, my conscience could no longer stay silent doing nothing.
Then one day last fall, I was asked by one of the local shelters to help out with an emergency situation with a small Maltese that they rescued from a puppy mill. Well this was my breaking point. I took this little guy in who had lived in a puppy mill knowing nothing more about life but to live in a crate and occasionally being let out to do his studly duty. When I got him, he was filthy, covered in sores from laying in his own fecal matter and urine. His paws were sore from the wire cages and he was beyond terrified. I quickly gave him a nice warm bath, and gently put some salve on his wounds. I set up a very large crate in my bedroom right by my bed, so he could watch me and feel safe for the first time in his life. I put the coziest bed in there and a clean water dish and some very good kibble. He ate and drank like there was no tomorrow and then he laid down on the softest bed he had ever known. He fell asleep and I think that poor little guy slept for a week. I could tell he felt safe and was finally able to sleep. We still had a long way to go, but in the end, he became a much healthier, stronger and emotionally stronger dog. He learned how to walk on a leash and feel the lush grass beneath him. He learned what a treat was and all the wonderful things that us pet lovers love to give our pets.
But my mission couldn't stop there. I had to think of how I could help more than one dog at a time. So after months of praying and thinking I came up with Rescuefido.com
A vision I give to God as he gives all we have. Now I start my venture into the world to help those who cannot help themselves. Will I be successful? I hope so. My success will depend on the shelters and Rescues and the advertisers that participate. Together we can all make a difference. So far RescueFido.com has been met with 100 percent positive comments and participation. I thank you all for that.
Keep checking back with me as I will update you all on our achievements all the way around. God Bless the doggies of the world!
